The Perfect Luv Tape - Lil Uzi Vert Review

Yo, what's up? I know I hinted at a review of that new Gucci album and yes it is in the works, but this mixtape dropped and I was too hype so I had to do a review of it first.

The Perfect Luv Tape - Lil Uzi Vert

You guys know that I up until now have enjoyed Lil Uzi Vert's stuff, even though his outfit during the XXL cyphers got me hella tight. He hinted at this project for a while now and I was very excited to give it a listen. So let's dive right in.

Do What I Want

This song is a great way to start the mixtape. It has an energetic beat and just a very Lil Uzi feel to it. I really like the way he references 'Money Longer' in this song, it's a nice little shoutout to one of the songs that helped him blow up.
This song is all about how now that he's made it he does whatever he wants to.
The lyrics might not really be the deepest or most complex, but they have the Lil Uzi feel to them. You can just vibe hella hard this and I for on appreciate that.

Of Course We Ghetto Flowers feat Playboi Carti & Offset

So first thing first, I only have ever heard one Playboi Carti song so I didn't really know what to expect. Offset is part of Migos so I kinda expected this song to be hype.
The beat in this song is crazy, It's most def a hype song and honestly all three rappers fit pretty well together.
All three of them have great verses and the hook is very catchy.
I have a small issue with Playboi Carti though, it's not a bad one though. His flow and lyrics aren't too bad, but he has a line about sleeping with hookers. Like come on my man, how are you going to brag about hookers? That's my only issue with this song really.
*Update* I actually did some research on Playboi Carti after this and he's actually pretty good. He rapped over the start up sound for the playstation 2 and his song 'Broke boi' is very good.

Original Uzi (4 Of Us)

This is the song that was the teaser clip for the album. Therefore I was hella stoked for this song. I knew it had to be a banger otherwise I would be really disappointed. It didn't disappoint.
This is another song with a great beat and some great one liners. Again it's not a really deep song, but he has some pretty hype lines in it.
I really like the way that Lil Uzi raps, it makes you want to hear more and the fact that he's not one of these new rappers, who you can't understand, is a big positive.

Money Mitch

This song was produced by Zaytoven, who produced most of the Gucci album so I am a fan of him. I like how he starts the song with the piano and I know for a fact that some people once they heard the intro to this song thought they were listening to a different artist of something. But then the beat comes in and it all turns back into a Lil Uzi song, which isn't really a bad thing.
This song is basically the typical Lil Uzi song. I don't wanna say that it's getting repetitive, but it kind of is. I still like this song, but the same formula for the songs is getting to me. Where's the "P's & Q's" and " You Was Right" of this mixtape? I hope that they are still  coming because this mixtape needs to broaden it's sound.

Sideline Watching (Hold Up)

I was just saying that this mixtape needed a different sound and he came with a different sound here. Just when I thought it was starting to get dry he comes with this song. This song's beat is refreshingly different than the first songs on this mixtape.
Lil Uzi also goes in on this song. He seems more focused on this song, while at the same time it sounds like he's having fun with it. His flow kind of reminds me of a rapper, who is freestyling and are super focused at first but then they find their groove and start to have fun with it.
The hook is very catchy and the song has a lot of quotable lines.
This is actually my favorite song off of this mixtape so far, not only is it a really refreshing track, but it is also very well made.

Alfa Romeo AW30 (I Can Drive)

Just when I thought it was going in the right direction, he kind of takes a step back with this song. While the beat is still kind of unique, the rest of the song sounds like the basic Lil Uzi Vert song. I'm not really a fan of this song to be honest.

You're Lost

Now he comes back with another refreshing tune and one of the strongest songs on the mixtape. It has a nice calm beat and he actually has a deeper meaning at first. To be fair, after his intro it kind of loses its message, but it's still a good song. It doesn't really have a hook and I like how he references "P's & Q's", since that's my favorite Lil Uzi Vert song.

Erase Your Social

This is another refreshing song with kind of a message. The beat is very good and different and he has very good verses on here. The only thing that I dislike about this song is that he repeats the hook so many times. It gets very repetitive. You can have a great beat and verses and a good message but if you draw it out too many times it just loses it's effect.
The message in this song is a good one though. He talks about how he doesn't have a snapchat because it's too personal and he doesn't want everyone knowing his every move. He also talks about how when his fans see him, their first reaction is to pull out their phones and take a snap of him.  It's an interesting message. I also like how at the end of the song he comes with a little bit of humor by jokingly saying that there are better girls on snapchat and he's gonna make one.

Ronda (Winners)

This is another pretty interesting song. It's all about coming back from a loss, no matter what anyone says. That's a pretty good message and the Ronda Rousey references are on point, but here's the big thing that bothers me with this song, there is too much repetition. He again has good verses and an interesting beat, but the hook and bridge are just repeated too many times.

Seven Million feat Future

This is easily the biggest feature on this mixtape. I don't really know how I feel about Future, some of his songs are bangers while some of them are straight trash.
The beat of this song is one of the best ones off of this mixtape. I really like the vibe you get from it and the pauses in it so Uzi can snap.
Speaking of Uzi snapping, Uzi goes in on this song. Why doesn't he always rap like this? I really like the short bridge after the second hook, it's an interesting addition to the song.
I also like the fact that Future is just on the hook and the intro/outro. He does a very good job at them and it just adds to the song.

Verdict

I liked this mixtape, although I found out what Lil Uzi's biggest weakness is. He has good verses and hype beats, but his verses are often times kind of on the short side while he repeats the hooks and bridges over and over again. This has the effect that there is basically less content in the songs, but also it all seems drawn out. Most of the songs on this mixtape are around 3min long or so, but due to the repetition they all seem longer. I think that if Lil Uzi can change that one thing then he will reach a higher level. I still enjoyed this mixtape, don't get me wrong. He just needs to do more unique songs and not fall into the cookie cutter song style.
In my opinion his last mixtape was stronger than this one, although I think that the features on this mixtape were all very strong.
I'll give this a 3.5/5.
